Playful Family Photos in New Orleans City Park

One of my favorite things about family sessions is that they don't have to be perfectly posed to be beautiful.


This recent family session in New Orleans City Park was all about freezing this season of life exactly as it is. Instead of asking the kids to sit still and smile at the camera the entire time, we let them be kids. They ran around the giant oak trees, blew bubbles, flew a kite together, danced with their parents, and even played a game of hiding behind the trees to "scare" Mom and Dad.


Those little moments are what make a gallery feel real.


Of course, we grabbed a few photos of everyone looking at the camera, but most of the session was spent simply playing together. The laughter, the hands reaching for Mom and Dad, the excitement of blowing bubbles, and everyone cheering as the kite caught the barely there wind. Those are the memories that deserve to be remembered.


One thing that's always important to me during family sessions is making time for Mom and Dad, too. Life gets busy, especially with little ones, but your family started with the two of you. Taking a few minutes for portraits together is such a sweet reminder of that, and those photos often become some of my favorites from the entire session.


New Orleans City Park is one of my favorite places for family photos because it gives kids so much room to explore. The wide open grass under oak trees makes it easy for everyone to relax and run around looking for the biggest or coolest tree around. Throughout the session, I captured everything from big, scenic moments that showed the whole family together beneath the trees to close-up details of little hands and smiles. That mix of perspectives helps tell the full story of your family.


At the end of the day, my goal isn't just to create photos for your walls. It's to give you a gallery that brings you right back to this stage of life, years from now. The way your kids laughed, the games you played together, the hugs, the chaos, and all the little moments in between. Those are the memories worth holding onto.
